<itunes:summary>One of the most common questions that we get asked at PRESENTATION EXPRESSIONS is "How can I effectively prepare for my presentation?" and that's what I want to look at in this weeks tip.

I'm not talking about your slides or content here though I'm talking about YOU. Fear is one of the most common problems for people when presenting or public speaking.

Let's look at three ways that you can get yourself ready for your next presentation and reduce or completely eliminate any fear that you may have.

The three things that I want to look at are:

	Perfection
	Focus
	Relax

1.Perfection

Know your material. You need to know the subject of your presentation, if you don't know your material then you shouldn't be presenting the subject. The audience whoever they are are there to learn from you, this is important to remember.

How can this be achieved? You need to practice, all the great presenters practice. The late Steve Jobs practiced for a minimum of two weeks before every presentation and look how good he was. Practice, Practice, Practice.

2.Focus

"Don't focus on you!" Focus on your presentation, remember why you are there. Also remember to focus on your audience:

What do they need to know?
	Why are they there?
Do their lives have any effect on your presentation?

Whatever it is focus on your audience. Once again remember the presentation is not about YOU it is about your audience.

3.Relax

You might consider this last one a little funny but being relaxed before a presentation is essential. Before your presentation you can do the following to help you relax.

1.Take a deep breath

You might feel silly but it works I do this 3 to 5 times before a presentation.

2.Relax your shoulders

Remove any tension you have by raising and dropping your shoulders a few times.

3.Your arms

Give them really a good shake.

4.Your hands

Again give them a really good shake.

5.Your legs

Yes, give them a really good shake.

6.Your neck

Move your head from side to side and roll.

Do all of these to help remove any tension that you have and you will start to feel relaxed and good.

To summarize then, the three things to do to effectively prepare for your next presentation are:

	Perfection
	Focus
	Relax

Oops! When you watch the video listen out for my mistake at 3.26, I say "Try these techniques before your next video." Of course I should have said before your next presentation. Sorry about that I guess I was enjoying making the video a little too much this week. :)

Enjoy the video.

<itunes:summary>Carl made a great video last week about how to use eye contact during a presentation called 'How to use eye contact in a presentation'. When using this week's tip be sure to use what Carl talked about as well.

So what is this week's tip then?

You are going to learn how to use space effectively in your presentation and I'm not talking about space on your slides. When people think of presentations they usually think of a very large stage and a podium, they imagine a big famous speaker giving the presentation.

But for most of us the reality is that we usually give presentations in a conference room, a classroom or an even smaller room.

How can we use the space we have effectively?

Most people stand at the head of the room but this is like standing behind a podium, it separates you from your audience, you create a barrier and you create a high status low status situation.

I am going to look at conference rooms, classrooms and rooms that you can arrange and tell you how to use the space effectively.

I would recommend that you now watch the video so you can visually see what I mean. If YouTube is unavailable in your area, please right-click here to download or watch the video: How to use space effectively in a presentation (Length 3:59)

Now that you have seen the video you can now understand that you don't need a stage to deliver a great presentation, you just need to use your space effectively.

Use these techniques in your next presentation and let us know how you get on.

Thanks

Liam
