<itunes:summary>Hey, it’s Carl Kwan here... In this video I’m going to talk about an easy three step method to awesome presentation content. So why is this so important to you? Now, one thing really critical for you to remember is that people do not want to listen to your presentation because they have a lot of better things to do. For example, they got to work, they got to do Facebook, Twitter, Email, whatever… they're distracted.

And by them listening to you, they're hoping to get some kind of value from you. So you have to make sure you give it to them so that they pay attention, remember what you said and take action.

So let's get started… Get a pen and paper and write down the very first thing here.

Please click the image below to watch the video. If YouTube is unavailable in your area, please click the following link to watch or download the video: Easy 3 Step Method To Awesome Presentation Content (Length 3:52)

Number one, write down the goal of your presentation.

What do you want to have happen at the end of the presentation? Now this could also be the title or headline for your presentation. What this does is that it will give you some kind of direction for your presentation and all the other stuff that's to follow in the content creation.

Second thing, think about your audience, who they are, what position they are in, what their role is, what their social status is.

But more importantly think about their desires, their fears, their problems, their pain, things that are keeping them up at night, things that they are constantly thinking about, things that they are worrying about. Think about what they want to hear and not what you want to say.

And make sure you write down all of these things on some kind of paper or you can use Evernote like I do.

The next thing to do is to go deeper, talk about the consequences they are experiencing because of those desires that they have, because of their fears, because of their problems, their pain, the things that are keeping them up at night, the stuff that they are thinking about and the stuff that they're worrying about.

What are the deeper consequences? What are things that are not so obvious to you or maybe even to them that is happening to them because of that situation that they're feeling?

Third, your stuff…The points that you want to make related to what they want to hear.

Write this stuff down. Now, how does your stuff relate to the audience’s desires, their pains, their fears, their problem… you know, the problems… and the things that are keeping them up at night and of course what they are thinking about and what they're worrying about?

Write that stuff down and talk about the benefits of what you have, what you’re going to talk about, related to your audience. Talk about what will happen to them because of what you are presenting.

Now the next part of this is to make sure that you are providing evidence and examples so that you can use those to prove the points that you've made in the prior parts of your presentation. And of course you're going to want to talk about some kind of action or take away point or some kind of point for them to remember.

Now why does all this work?

It’s because you're hitting them psychologically, you're speaking directly to them. As humans we are only interested in ourselves. Yep, okay, big secret… We are all interested in our own problems and what you’re gonna do is you're going to offer a way for them to achieve their desires, to overcome their fears, to overcome their pain, overcome their problem and get past the things that are keeping them up at night, that they're constantly thinking about and that they're constantly worrying about.

So that is a three step method for you to create awesome presentation content. Make sure you take those and apply those to your next presentation.

<itunes:summary>Hey there, it's Carl Kwan here. So in this video, I'm gonna talk about another way that you can use to start your presentation and get the audience's attention. Now, this is going to be a really cool thing to learn because you've never heard this from us before.

And what I'm gonna tell you is that you're gonna tell your audience that they're wrong and that you're right.

Why would you want to do that?

Now, why this is gonna work so well is because most people have a certain belief about a particular topic. They're gonna have maybe a misconception or they're gonna believe some kind of myth. And then you're gonna tell them why that is actually false.

So that sets you up as the expert and it also makes them want to figure out, "Well, what don't I know?" to fill that knowledge gap that they're gonna have.

Please click the image below to watch the video. If YouTube is unavailable in your area, please click the following link to watch or download the video: How To Start A Presentation: Tell The Audience They're Wrong (Length 1:47)

How you do it

What you're going to say is something like this, right at the beginning you're gonna say…

"You probably think that (whatever). Right? But you'd be wrong. And that's what I'm going to talk about today."

You just fill in "whatever" with your topic.

As an example, you could say something like this, "You probably believe, you probably think…" You probably think, you probably believe, both the same.

"You probably believe that most people buy based on logic. But you'd be wrong. And that's what I'm going to talk about today."

You can change it to believe or think, it doesn't really matter, as long as you're telling them that, "Hey, what you think or what you currently believe is actually not true and I'm gonna tell you the truth."

Gets their attention

It's a really fantastic way for you to start your presentation to show that you're an expert and to get the audience's attention right off the bat.

If you have any questions about this particular expression or anything else about presentations, please leave a comment below, we'd be more than happy to answer your questions for you.

Thank you once again.

Take care.

All the best.

<itunes:summary>Is there a magic formula for preparing a self-introduction for your presentations? If you're like a lot of the people who come to our site, you probably wish there was because so many of you want to know how to introduce yourselves… Or perhaps you wish you could make yourself disappear so you don't have to give the presentation at all! :)

Presentation Magician

But what if you could learn how to introduce yourself from a presentation magician? I can hear you asking yourself, "Did he just say a presentation magician??" Yes, that's exactly what I said… a presentation magician! Let me explain...

You see, I recently met, I think, the world's only presentation magician. And if there are others, then he's got to be the best.

To be perfectly honest, I had no idea what a presentation magician was, but now that I do, I want to introduce him to you because he has a great example of how to introduce yourself.

"Please welcome to the stage…"

Okay, enough suspense… I'm very happy to introduce to you, Charles Greene III from Washington, DC. For those of you that are confused by the "III" at the end of Charles' name, it stands for "the third." This means that he is the third person in his family to have the name Charles. So here's some background on Charles from his website Charles Greene…

"Charles Greene III is a true Presentation Magician. Working with Fortune 500 companies, he’s a magical spokesperson who delivers product and marketing messages at conferences around the globe.

Through his company Corporate Shuffle, Charles has presented at meetings in Bermuda, China, Egypt, France, Mexico, Monaco, Sweden, and, of course, the United States. His clients span a variety of industries and include 3M, Alcon, Coca-Cola, Clorox, Frito-Lay, Johnson & Johnson, Panasonic, and Wells Fargo. His unique presentations have been featured in numerous publications including Robb Report, Successful Meetings and The Wall Street Journal. He’s even been quoted in Reader’s Digest.

Charles Greene is very well known inside the world of magic. Charles has been awarded top honors by The International Brotherhood of Magicians and Siegfried and Roy for his performing skills. He’s appeared on the cover of the largest international publications in the magical arts, Genii, Magic, and The Linking Ring. Charles is a frequent contributor to magic journals, usually writing articles on the business side of maintaining a magical career. He is a member of Hollywood’s “Magic Castle” and of London’s “Magic Circle”."

How I know Charles

Pretty impressive credentials, huh? I've been fortunate to have gotten to know Charles over the last several weeks because we both have an interest in making videos with our iPhones. Charles saw my review of an iPhone mic and got in touch with me. We've been getting to know each other through email ever since.

Charles' Introduction Video

Charles told me he was working on a video for his website and was very excited about finally doing it. I told him that I would be happy to share it with you. So last week, Charles made a fantastic video to introduce himself and it blew my socks off! I thought you would really benefit from seeing a great self-introduction sample and now I can show you one from a true pro.

Go ahead and click the image below to watch the video and then read about why Charles' introduction is so good.

If YouTube is unavailable in your area, click the following link to download the video or watch in your browser: Charles Greene III Self Introduction (Length 1:29)

Click the image below to watch the video...

What Charles Does

There are four things Charles does that you should keep in mind when introducing yourself.

1. Background and Experience

Right after Charles says his name, he tells us about his work and how he has been doing it around the globe. The explanation is short, to the point, and is impressive because he gets our attention.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>In this week's presentation tip video, you're going to learn a very cool tip from Instructional Designer and presentations blogger Craig Hadden to help you figure out what to say to your audience when starting your presentation. Craig is going to talk about how to get into the mind of your audience with a simple technique that will help you develop your presentation content faster. The great thing is you'll also better understand what your audience wants to hear.

Why is all this important?

Because if you can talk to your audience and say what they want to hear, then your audience will pay attention and be riveted to you and your presentation. And it's a lot easier to persuade someone when you can speak to them and say things they want to hear.

And Craig Hadden is going to show you how.

I met Craig online after I saw a great article (http://remotepossibilities.wordpress.com/2011/11/23/answer-peoples-key-question-first-framework-part-1a/) he wrote on his blog Remote Possibilities about answering your audience's key question. Craig described in great detail 4 things you can do that starts with answering the burning question every audience has, which is… "What's in it for me?"

So I got in touch with Craig and asked him if he would like to be interviewed and to share his technique for opening a presentation and really getting your audience's attention. Luckily, he agreed and the video you'll see is Craig and I chatting over Skype.

4 Things that will grab your audience's attention

What you'll find really valuable is how Craig has broken down his technique into four easy-to-implement steps… And it shouldn't be a surprise that he's done that because he's an instructional designer and gets paid to make it easy for people to learn things!

Get comfy, grab a coffee and a snack…

And watch the interview by clicking on the image below and be sure to take notes!

Big thanks to Craig for the interview and for providing the graphics and text for the video… made my job a lot easier!

If YouTube is unavailable in your area, then right-click the following link to download the video: How to start a presentation: Expert reveals simple technique to get into the audience's mind (Length 21:27)

Here are the 4 steps Craig describes in the interview:

Use questions or issues for structure
	Involve people through the title
	Answer overtly, early, and often
	Say "you" more

This is something that you will only learn by doing and making mistakes. Starting a presentation well requires you to be in tune with your audience. And it's nice that Craig has done such a good job giving you a framework to refer to. Hope you enjoy this presentation tip as much as I enjoyed interviewing Craig. Be sure to check out the original article and leave a positive comment for Craig.

Thanks.

<itunes:summary>In this week's presentation tip video, I'm going to teach you a fast and easy way for how to use proper hand gestures in a presentation or when giving a speech. You've probably heard different ways you should use your hands when presenting or speaking and you've probably been confused by what you've heard. Well, I'm here to shed some light on this important, but somewhat confusing topic.

In this week's video, I'm going to talk about what the heck to do with your hands when you're giving a presentation or speech.

I'm going to explain why using your hands is important and give you some tips for how to use your hands while standing and waiting to speak and while speaking, so you can look all cool and confident when you're up there giving your presentation.

I know that this particular topic causes people a lot of grief because many people don't feel comfortable expressing themselves with their hands even though that's what they've been taught to do in most presentation or public speaking courses.

Why are hand gestures important?

The main reason why you should understand how to use hand gestures in a presentation is because of how you'll appear to your audience. You've probably heard about how it's so bad to cross your arms in front of you while speaking and that's true. But the other thing is this:

If your hand gestures are good, you'll make your audience feel more comfortable because they can see that you're confident and in control. And that's a good thing if you're selling them something, or presenting at a conference, or you're speaking at school, or you're talking to potential employers during a job interview.

You know what?

For you single guys… This will even help you when you're trying to land a date with that pretty girl you see everyday that you're too scared to talk to.

Ok, so let me explain how you use your hands when giving a presentation or speech. But remember this…

Nothing will help your presentation if you didn't prepare and practice.

Nothing

Nothing I can teach you about using your hands is gonna be worth anything if you didn't take the time to prepare your actual presentation and practice.

Got it? Good.

Anyway… First, I'm going to talk about when you're waiting to speak.

You know, that uncomfortable time when you're not sure what you should do, especially if you're waiting for other people to finish speaking first. The solution for this is elegantly simple and it's something easy to remember and do.

Just stand up nice and tall and clasp your hands behind your back. Really easy.

But don't bounce around or sway or fidget with your hands while you're waiting. Just stand still and relaxed, not military stiff, and you'll give off a sense of calm and confidence. You can look at the speaker and listen to them, which is a polite thing to do in this situation.

Ok, so now it's your turn to speak.

This is actually a lot easier than you think and you won't have to learn anything new. And I'm really excited about teaching you this because it's just such a brilliantly simple thing to do.

You see, I realized that when we sit and talk to people, whether it be with your friends, your boss, or whoever… we naturally use our hands when we speak. Think about it…

When you're having a conversation with someone while sitting down, what do you do with your hands?

Yes, I know, sometimes your hands are on your lap, or whatever, but I'm gonna guess that most of the time you're speaking and using your hands.

So you've probably figured out by now that my big revelation with hand gestures is to just pretend you are sitting down and talking to someone.

There's absolutely no need to plan or choreograph your hand gestures. That's so unnatural and really bad advice.</itunes:summary>
